Ilaria didn’t know what she was seeing. Colors suddenly began to swirl together right behind Gabriella as she stood there addressing the wolves.

And then, unbelievably, an armored wolf in beast form leapt out of the colors. All she could manage was yelling Gabriella’s name before the guard punched its sword into Gabriella’s back.

There was nothing she could do.
