I did not go far at first. I wanted to make sure Elias went into his room. I waited until I heard the soft click of his lock. Only then did I breathe out and turn the corner.

Everything in me felt sharp.

Vale was trouble. Not loud trouble. Not obvious trouble. The quiet kind that watched from corners and spoke with calm words that did not match the thoughts behind his eyes.
