Erick’s POV

Behind them got louder. They sounded like broken voices, and Erick's wolf inside him felt scared. He held Deborah's hand tight as they ran through the forest, branches scratching them.

"Left!" Deborah yelled, pulling him toward a space between two big trees.

They squeezed through just as something hit the tree behind them hard. Erick looked back, and he wished he hadn't.

The things chasing them were wolves, but strange. They seemed to flicker, sometimes solid, sometimes ...
