I shook my head so hard I felt dizzy, staring at Martina, waiting for her to tell me she had made a mistake. But her face stayed pale and sad.

“No,” I said again. The word tripped out of my mouth, louder this time. I felt like if I said it loud enough, the truth would stop being real. “No! Not him!”
