I step away from the podium. Patricia immediately intercepts, guiding me toward the exit while reporters shout questions I don't answer.

We make it to the hallway. The door closes, muffling the chaos behind us.

"That was good," Patricia says. "Controlled. Sincere. The footage will play well on the evening news."

I don't care about the evening news. I care about one woman watching from wherever she's hidden herself and our children.
