Elder Rowan set the document on the table and looked directly at Grayson.

"This was submitted to the Council this morning," he said. "A sworn affidavit. Would you care to identify it for the record?"

Grayson's voice was steady. "It's a character witness statement for Lynn Beverly. Submitted by her adoptive parents, Yanis and Wendy Hill. Notarized."
