I’m standing by a tall oak tree, just barely hidden by a growth of foliage. I listen to every sound in the small forest. Every crack and stirring of leaves sends my heart fluttering, not in fear but in expectation.

A howl, louder than a thousand explosions, erupts in the night. I jump, startled, and stare in the direction of the noise. A moment later, a massive shape forms from the shadows, silver eyes glowing in the dark. ...
