I stare off into space, watching her back turn as she flees into the forest beyond. My heart sinks at her words, but I can’t get my brain to believe them. It just doesn’t make sense. How can she be MAKING me feel this way?

I collapse onto the sodden ground, not caring that mud is sinking into my clothes or that bugs start to bite and claw at my skin.
