I ran a brush through my hair slowly, taking in the now-familiar sterile scent of the hospital room. The nurse had just left after checking my vitals and clearing me for discharge. My bag was already packed. All that was left was to wait for Luke.

He’d disappeared earlier, saying he had to handle something, but wouldn’t give me a straight answer. I didn’t mind. He’d barely left my side for days. If he needed space to breathe, I could give him that.
