Rejected Mate

Marielle's POV

“Victory. Victory.“

The cheers of the crowd echoed through the rink. The college ice hockey team—Blackridge Ice Wolves had just won the tournament that qualified them to the finals that would take place in the next four and yeah.. we were celebrating.

The ice hockey team pulled their jerseys—revealing their sexy abs and tattoos—and waved it in the air while sliding on the ice.

Despite my weight and the tightness of my cheerleading uniform—a short blue pleated skirt with white shirt—I jumped for joy waving the pom-pom in my hands.

I'm not only excited for the victory, but also excited because… finally my mate—Rylan Ward—prince heir of the Blackridge Pack—would finally announce that we are mates.

On my eighteenth birthday four months ago, we discovered that we were fated mate. We accepted eachother and had been dating secretly since then, but Rylan had been too busy with rehearsals, so he promised we were going to accept each other publicly—right here on the rink—if the team wins.

My eyes darted towards him as he was addressing his team members and my lips curled into smile.

God… he is so beautiful.

A pair of stormy gray eyes. A jaw set so perfectly that it belonged to the front cover of a magazine. Tall. Broad-shouldered.

I have loved him since I was ten—since the one time my father, Alpha of the Silverhart Pack, brought me here on duty. Because of him, I studied hard to get into Blackridge university that only admit the one percent of the percent prominent heirs in North California.

Then he started walking towards me in slow, deliberate steps. He was really going to announce us. I quickly ran a hand through my hair, buttoned my shirt that keeps coming off because my large breasts are threatening to burst free. And smacked my lips to the invisible gloss there.

Rylan lips curled into a smile as he stood in front of me. His scent—musk and cedar—and oppressive Alpha aura pressed down on me. His soft eyes were fixed on me. I blushed, feeling embarrassed a little as everyone was now staring at us.

My heart pounded as I imagined our first kiss in front of everyone. The team cheering for us and then when he becomes the Alpha… I'd stand beside me, not as the overweight Omega but as a powerful Luna.

“Rylan….“ I muttered, head lowered. “Congratulations on your big win.“

“Thank you, fatty…” he replied casually, voice loud with mockery.

Laughter echoed through at his response.

Even my own cheer squad giggled behind their pompoms. Then one of the hockey players wolf-whistled, chanting, “Fatty. Fatty.“

Cold, gut-wenching humiliation crashed down on me.

Oh, fatty.. that was my nickname. I'm a size sixteen.

Fatty?

My brows furrowed in confusion. I never expected that he'd call me that. He used to be the one to rescue me from the other students.

I snapped my head up at him. “Rylan…” the words died in my mouth because his eyes are so cold—sending chills shiver down my spine.

What the hell is happening?

He's supposed to claim me like he said yesterday after we made love and not look at me like he is barely holding himself from throwing up.

Rylan smirked, then his hands, reached out. But not for me. It slide past me to Mirena—my twins sister. She placed her hand on his and shoulder-brushed me as she walked past to stand beside him. I stumbled and fell sharply to the floor with a loud thud.

Mocking laughter echoed through, ripping my heart apart.

“Easy, fatty,” Rylan sneered, wrapping his arms possessively around her waist. “Don't scatter the floor with your weight.“

Mirena's lips curved in a smile—sharp, victorious. Not even a flicker of shame touched her perfect face as she leaned into him, eyes glittering with triumph.

“Oh.. sorry sister,” she mocked. “You were occupying the whole space, that was why I pushed you off the road.“

Their words stung than I cared to admit. My eyes were wide in disbelief at the sight playing out right in front of me. Summoning all the strength inside me, I pushed myself up and dust myself clean.

I swallowed past the lump in my throat. “What's happening, Rylan?“ I forced a pathetic smile at him. “You're supposed to be claiming me.“

“Claiming you?“ He let out a cold laugh. “You? Why would I chain myself to that—” Rylan gestured at me, at my round belly, my softness, my flaws laid bare for the whole college to see “—when I can have her? The better version. The beautiful one. Strong and loved.“

The tears I have been holding all this while finally slide down my cheeks. “What?“ My lips trembled.

“It is what it is, Marielle. I won't be caught dead with a fat, weak and worthless Omega like you as my mate and future Luna,” he spat, voice devoid of any emotions.

I stared at him—really stared at him—hopung I'd catch a hint of the man that had held me last night, promised me forever, thrusted into while whispering that I was the best woman for him.

“You are my mate, Rylan. You are supposed to be mine. You said you loved me—just the way I am. Just yesterday, you promised you were going to accept our mate bond.“

“Love you the way you are?“ He repeated as if the words were the dumbest he had heard in years. “You really believe that crap. I only said that to get a taste of your sweet. Tight. Cunt,” he spat through gritted teeth with no iota of shame. “You take me so well, fatty.“

Laughter erupted.

Four months of love, care and that was all I was worth. His personal fuck toy?

“You really think someone like Rylan would want you?“ Mirena chipped in. “Just take a look at me.“ She turned around and I hated to admit that she looked so beautiful in her cheerleading uniform. She was a size eight with a sexy killer shape. “So why would any reasonable man want you?!“

I pressed a hand to my face. The humiliation is too much for me to bear.

Mirena had everything I have always wanted. Beauty, strength, and attention. She was the loved twins while I was the disposable one… and now she has my mate—the only one I had thought choose me for the first time ever.

I turned away; I needed to get away. Through my blurry eyes, I started running out of the arena, when Rylan's voice stopped me in my tracks.

“Not so fast, fatty. Accept my rejection before you leave. I, Rylan Ward of the Blackridge pack rejects you, Marielle Cross as my mate and future Luna.“

Pain tore through my chest like blade. My hands clutched my shirt tightly in an attempt to contain the heartbreak. My knees buckled but I won't fall again. Not here—where everyone can see.

After I had managed to steady myself a little, I began without turning back. “I, Marielle Cross accept your rejection,” I said, making sure my voice doesn't tremble.

My body trembled as the rejection pain hit me like a sledgehammer. I stood rooted to the spot as the bond snapped. My ever silent wolf growled in silent and went hollow.

After the pain had subsided a little, I wiped off the last rail of tears that slide down my cheeks and ran out of the arena—away from the place that had just stripped me of my dignity.
