“How did I not realize they are witches?” Beatrice murmurs.

I step into Canaries behind her. Above us, a bird calls as the door pats shut. She hovers there in the entry as if unsure she will be welcomed back to the coffee shop. My hand glances along the curve of her back nudging her forward.
