“Hold up. You actually thought Brittany was a junkie?” C.G.’s sharp tone slices through the room, pulling me back into their conversation. The anger in his voice makes it clear he’s not holding back.

Of course, he did. Why wouldn't he? They always assume the worst about me.

“She looked strung out,” Reckoning answers, his words rigid. "I wondered if... and then Neris said she saw her taking pills."
