Just then, Alpha Xavier’s eyes met mine, and with a subtle gesture, he signalled for me to follow the council. 

I blinked, unsure if I’d read him right—why would he want me there? Still, my feet moved before my thoughts could catch up.

The discussion dragged on for a while, but the tension had thinned.
