We barely have time to breathe before Grandma winces, her hand clamping at her knee. 

The conversation about Xavier frays at the edges as Alpha Damien’s words still hang in the air, but the room moves as one toward her.

“Easy, Grandma,” I said quickly, rushing to her side as she sighed deeply. 

Claire and I helped her up and guided her to the guest room, our conversation about Xavier fading into the background.
