My eyelids fluttered, heavy as stone, the world swimming back into a focus in slow and painful pieces.

Voices reached me first sharply.

“Why did she pass out?” Alpha Damien asked.

His voice wasn’t calm or collected or Alpha-like. 

My heart jerked in my chest.

I blinked as my vision cleared enough to see him standing near the foot of the bed, his shoulders tensed and eyes burning like he’d run here from another world.
