They brought Claire into the room gently, laying her down on the bed as if she might shatter with the slightest touch.

Damien paced near the doorway as his jaw clenched tight.

I stood there, frozen, watching as they cleaned the cuts on her arms and wiped the blood from her face. 

Each wince that slipped from her lips made me flinch. She looked so small beneath the blanket, her breathing uneven but steadying bit by bit.
