The next morning, the training grounds looked nothing like the place I’d seen before. 

The air felt different as the Council members stood in a line, robes fluttering in the cold breeze and their expressions unreadable.

They had decided the Trial of the Veil would last seven days.

Seven days to test my body, my spirit, and whatever power they believed I possessed.

I stood on the packed dirt, heart pounding so loudly it felt like the entire arena could hear it.
