Betty’s POV. 

The walk started quietly. The air outside was warm, carrying the faint scent of roasted corn from a nearby stall. 

I kept my eyes ahead, hands tucked into my pockets, unsure what to say.

Megan walked beside me, close enough that I could hear the soft shuffle of her shoes, yet she didn’t say a word either.

Every few steps, I caught her glancing at me, then quickly looking at something else like the street signs, the passing cars, and even the sky.
