I waited until I’d finished reviewing the last email on my screen before reaching for the business card Patricia slid across my desk a few days ago.

Charles Bennett’s name and number were printed on it. I picked up my phone, typed in the number, and pressed call.

He answered after the second ring.

“Hello?”

“Hi, Charles. It’s Elena Sterling. We met at the foundation event a few days ago.”

“Of course, Elena. I was hoping you’d get in touch.”
