Discharged Chapter 4
Alice's POV
My vision blurred, my ears vibrating as his words echoed endlessly.
Complications? My baby?
Those words wouldn't stop ringing in my ear. It was painful that a decision had to be made whether to save me or my baby.
Thomas had caused all these, and now, I was being asked to call him to make a decision on my behalf?
Obviously he never cared about me… it would be useless seeking his help in this kind of situation.
“I'll sign it.” I said firmly, and the doctor froze, his expression puzzled. I nodded, as if confirming what I just said. “I have no one to sign it on my behalf. My husband is out on a long business trip, and I'm not sure when he'll be back.”
I had to cover up somehow, because almost everyone in the city knew I was married to Thomas, and he was also quite famous. I couldn't even afford to lie about him being dead or displaced.
“Oh! How about you call him on the phone?” He quizzed, his voice dripping with concern. “I'm afraid you can't make this decision on your own.”
I gave a little frown, my pupils dilating in a mix of hurt and anger. But then as quickly as it came, the feeling disappeared. I owe it to myself to at least be happy now.
“I know my husband more than you do. He would be too busy to pick up the phone. I'm sure I should be allowed to make a decision on my own, especially when it concerns me.”
The doctor heaved a deep sigh— one that showed surrender. “Okay that's fine. We'll go with your decision then.” He replied and slipped the folder forward, letting it face me.
He helped me sit up and handed me a pen afterwards, watching me closely as I tendered my signature on the paper.
When I was done, he grabbed the folder with a slight nod, making his way out with it.
Barely minutes after he had left, he returned back, but this time, there were two nurses behind him.
“I hope you feel better now, Mrs Brooks.” He asked, walking up to my bed. I nodded weakly, flashing him a faint smile. “Oh that's great! In that case, we have to proceed with the operation.”
He turned to one of the nurses behind him, picking a syringe and a liquid substance from the small tray in her hands.
When he was done transferring the liquid into the cannula, he turned to face me.
His smile was warm, calming me in the most unimaginable way. “Breathe in… out…” He kept repeating the words, injecting my arm slowly until the lights went out.

Hours Later
“Congratulations, Mrs Brooks. The procedure was successful, and now you're scheduled to be discharged at dusk.” The doctor said as soon as my eyes flicked open.
I nodded, feeling my chest constrict in pain. The thought of losing my baby after so many months of silent tears and hard work hurt more than any stab could.
I was really looking forward to the day I would finally lift my baby in my arms, as that was the only consolation I needed from all the trouble Thomas made me pass through.
It even hurt more when his words echoed in my ear once again…
“You're worthless, and so is your cursed child—”
I knew I meant nothing to him, but I never thought he would extend that hatred to an unborn child— our child.
I thought of everything I had lost since I got married to him— my happiness, my career, my future, and now my child, and it only hurt even more that all these meant nothing to him.
I guess it was high time I stood my ground. I was going to leave him for good— and I must do it now!
When it was finally time for my discharge, the nurses helped me out, after handing me my medications.
“Ensure to take them promptly as instructed.” The doctor said as he watched the nurses help me out of the ward.
I nodded and exited the ward with the nurses.
—
The drive back home stretched long— longer than expected. Maybe it was because of the fact that I couldn't wait to get home to pick up my things and leave this shit hole called marriage.
I swore in my heart never to spend one more night in that house with Thomas, and I was definitely going to do just that.
The night was drawing near quickly, and that feeling alone brought back the cruel memories of last night.
After what seemed like an eternity, the car finally pulled up in front of the exquisite mansion, the place I once knew as home— but not anymore.
I got out quickly, and the maid who had rushed me to the hospital earlier, came running towards me. She gave a small bow, her face widening with a smile.
“Welcome back, Mrs Brooks.” She greeted me as she began to lead me into the house. “Pardon my manners. I had to leave the hospital as quickly as possible, so I won't incur the boss's wrath.”
I nodded weakly. “That's fine.” I smiled back at her, and when we approached the stairs that led to my room— our matrimonial room, she stopped.
“I have to leave now.” She said and walked away before I could even get a chance to stop her.
A deep sigh escaped my lips as I continued climbing up the stairs, but I stopped on my tracks when I heard a funny, somewhat familiar sound.
A woman's soft moans filled the air, making my heart race.
“Urrgghhh! Take it easy daddy.”
“Say my name, naughty girl.” That was Thomas's voice— a low, deep groan.
The woman moaned in pleasure, echoing his name softly.
I pressed my hands to my ears, hoping this was all a dream.
I've been out since last night fighting for my life and that of our baby, and the only thing Thomas could think of was to bring a woman home, fucking her right in our bedroom?
How cruel could he be!
I heaved a deep sigh, breathing heavily to ease the pain in my chest. Of what use was it bothering myself over him anyway? I had made up my mind to leave, and I won't stop now.
I gripped the door knob gently, pushing the open with a loud thud.
Thomas jerked on his feet, facing the door almost immediately, and the moment his eyes met mine, his eyes narrowed, his hands clenched in his sides.
“Are you out of your mind?!”
