“What do you mean Wright?” Evelyn questioned.“I-I thought you'd be happy to see me, I've been missing for days, did you even make an effort to look for me?!” Evelyn’s eyes began to tear up, frustrated and disappointed that Zayn might have been telling the truth.
Wright groaned loudly. Then he bursted into a sardonic laughter.
He grabbed her again and dragged her towards the table. He let her go, and brought out some papers from his drawers.
“Sign these!” He said, handing her a pen. She flipped through the papers- They were… divorce papers.
“What is this Wright?” She questioned. “Your wife- Your mate, went missing and she suddenly reappears. You didn't even care to ask what happened to me or if I was okay, instead you… toss divorce papers at my face.”
“You are not my mate Evelyn!” He roared at her.
“Ava is. My one true mate, the one I actually marked and imprinted on.” He added.
“I see. I caught you guys having sex at your penthouse, three nights before our wedding.” She revealed, but he just stared at her unfazed.
She scoffed, “She's your mate, then… why did you choose me?”
There was no response.
She flipped through the papers again, and saw that Wright was claiming 100% rights to her fortune.
As his Luna, immediately they got married, he automatically had 100% right over whatever she has, even after divorce or her death.
So Zayn was right after all.
“You want to take everything from me?” She uttered in disbelief, “Why? You already have everything. Why'd you do this to me?!”
She scoffed again, “Of course. For Ava, did you plan this with her? Or was it just for your own greed? So it was all true?”, Wright just continued to stare at her.
“Did you have a hand in the death of my pack and family?” She questioned.
Wright laughed again. “You are finally catching up, sweetheart.”
“How are you this evil? When did you become this evil?- Or… have you always been this despicable?” she could no longer recognize the man before her. Was this who he really was? Who he's always been?
Then the man she knew was a lie.
“You had a hand in the death of my pack and family, Wright. You already knew your mate yet you chose me just to plan my assassination and take everything from me. I won't let you get away with this, I'm not going to sign any divorce papers-”
“Oh but I'm already getting away with it, sweetheart. And you don't have any much of a choice, else you'd be defying the orders of the council, which is punishable by death,” he informed. Then he brought out another piece of document from the drawers, and tossed it at her.
“You don't have much of a choice Evelyn. You're just a worthless weak omega with some few privileges, you're no better than a dog.” He said to her.
Evelyn's eyes skimmed through the documents. The council had approved his request for divorce- Maybe that's how Zayn rightly guess that Wright may divorce her if she shows up in his life again.
He knew if she did show up, she wouldn't agree to divorcing him, so he took it to the council and got their approval through his influence, stating she's no longer fit to be his luna.
“There's nothing you can do about this, Evelyn. The least you can do is sign those divorce papers and at least keep your worthless life.” Wright told.
There was silence.
Evelyn swallowed the lump in her throat. She took the pen again, and reluctantly signed the papers.
“Was that so hard now.” Wright said, taking the papers from her.
“You'll pay for this!- For all you've done to me. I'll make you pay. I won't let you get away with this,” Evelyn assured, pain evident in her voice.
“(Scoffs) Get out of my sights before I change my mind about letting you keep your life.” Wright threatened, his hazel eyes turning to a red hue of an alpha.
Evelyn turned around and left the study. She met Ava outside the study.
Ava smirked mockingly at her.
“You didn't get to enjoy this much while it lasted, did you, Mrs. Cane?”
“Do you know he had a hand in the death of our family and pack?” Evelyn told.
“Oh now it's our family?” Ava scoffed, “I was just an orphan niece who was leeching off my all too generous uncle, your father- That's how you all made me feel,”
“Ava-”
“I was never really part of your family or pack, so I care less what Wright does with them. You don't know what great joy your downfall brings me,” Ava laughed a small laughter in sheer mockery.
Evelyn sighed and just walked away ignoring her, there was no need wasting her time on her. But it was a huge blow to her that Wright planned it all- She was more than hurt and betrayed. How could he do this to her? How could he do this to her pack and family just to get their fortune?
She was too much in thoughts to even care about the stares from the attendees of the ball. She walked out of the house and went to Zayn's limo, which was opened for her as soon as she approached it.
“Knew you'd be back. How did it go down?” Zayn started, with that smug tone of his.
“Just take me home. To my mansion.” Evelyn almost choked on her tears. She turned away from Zayn, staring blankly at the window.
Zayn sighed, letting her be.
They got to her house. But Wright's betas were at the premises and they refused to let her in.
“This is now a property of alpha Wright. You are not permitted to step in nor claim any property in and from it,” one of them said to her.
So he really did strip her of everything.
“You can't do this! He can't do this! This is my house! My home,” the only home she's known all her life, the home she was born, raised, and grew up in.
“Let's just go, Evelyn.” Zayn urged her, and so soon, they were in his limo again, heading back to his mansion.
Evelyn was just lost in thoughts.
“Your pack and the other Sentry packs, were to go fight some discovered group of rogues, during the brutal crisis with rogue werewolves five years ago. But they were outnumbered when they got there, they needed backup, requested backup, but somehow Wright made sure they got none. And so, they all perished.” Zayn explained.
Evelyn couldn't believe what she was hearing. She finally bursted into tears.
It wasn't just because of Wright's treachery and betrayal, it wasn't because she wasn't strong enough, but it was tears she's been trying to hold in these past few years. Her pack… her family… her mom, her father, her older brother… none of them deserved what happened to them- None of them deserved to be sacrificed for the greed of some higher up.
She was crying so profusely, it actually flustered Zayn. He doesn't know how to comfort people, he didn't expect her to cry this much. His hand moved towards her and he patted her back, and then she hugged him out of the blue.
Zayn's eyes widened a little in shock, not expecting her to do this too. She cried on, on his shoulders, and Zayn could only but continue patting her.
She stopped crying- letting go of him, “I must have my revenge.”
“And I will help you see to it.” Zayn promised.
“Can I trust you?” She doesn't think she can trust anyone again. “For all I know, you might have aided him, so you could have me for yourself.”
‘There she goes again.’ Zayn thought. He smiled at her, “Is that what you really think?”
She sighed. No. But she can't let her guard down. Anyone could betray her.
“Let's get married, Zayn.”
