#Chapter 3

The previously quiet hall was now filled with murmurs and loud whispers. I could clearly hear what they were saying as they all spoke like I wasn’t there.

"That is impossible" A beta slammed on the table giving me a stern look, I would have been shaken by his look but I meant business, I wasn't going to relent. I had expected that reaction from them so I wasn’t surprised; it was quite rare for an omega to carry an alpha’s child unless she had been pronounced his mate, which clearly, I was not.

“That’s not possible” another beta said from the crowd

“But it has happened” I drew closer to the table “I’m carrying the next alpha” I didn’t know where the feeling of confidence came from.

“And who are you?” one of the gamma’s present asked.

“I am Lila, one of the packs’ maids”

“An Omega?” He asked and they all gasped when I nodded in agreement.

“An Omega carrying an Alpha’s child?” Beta Damian turned to Ethan expecting him to say something. Beta Damian was my aunt’s husband but I didn’t mean anything to him. From the onset, he disliked me and had been against bringing me into the pack.

“What did you say your name was again?” Alpha Ethan finally spoke up and I gasped at his question

“Pretence is it?” My wolf said

My eyes were filled with rage as our gaze met but he didn’t flicker, he gave me a stern look like he had never met me in his life. Despite looking bold, I could feel my heart shatter into a million pieces; is this how it felt to be betrayed? I never imagined standing in a position where I’d have no one side me, not even those I once trusted.

I watched Ethan lean over to his left and he whispered into Beta Damian’s ears. It went on for a while and the crowd entertained themselves by murmuring in groups.

Alpha Ethan took his seat and Beta Damian was now standing “Lila….”

I shifted my gaze from Ethan to Beta Damian “What now?” My wolf wasn’t having it

“…for false accusations-“

I couldn’t let him complete a statement that wasn’t true “What do you mean false accusations?”

“You’d be locked up until further investigations are concluded and you’re proven innocent” he added ignoring my query

“Locked up?” I could feel the burning sensation of my wolf trying to jump out.

“I got this” I whispered but it didn’t care anymore

“Seize her” Beta Damian ordered the guards. Before I could get a hang of what was happening, I felt a familiar tingling sensation surge through my veins “no, no, no” I whispered desperately but it didn’t stop

My limbs began to lengthen, my senses heightened; the scents of the wolves became more intense. Despite being a wolf for over 7 years, my skin still itched as furs burst out. I could feel my bones reposition with soft crackles, my fingers shortened and my nails sharpened into claws. My face elongated, my teeth sharpened and my canines lengthened; I finally gave in to my wolf

The change was swift but it was a bit of a hassle because I tried resisting her.

Standing on all fours, my wolf looked around

“What are you waiting for? Seize her!!!” Ethan thundered

“Now what?” I asked

“We run” as quickly as she said it, she sprinted past the guards and into the dim lit corridors, her paws pounding on the cold floor. The guards shouted and cursed as they ran after her, their footsteps were closing in. Soon, we were out of the mansion and the heavy wooden gate was barely thirty feet away.

Suddenly, a guard lunged forward, he held a gun in his hands. For a second, I thought that was going to be the end of my existence but my wolf veered sharply.

“That’s my girl! We’re almost there” I said happily but I felt a slow down in her pace.

“What’s happening?” I asked but I could feel my strength wavering, the wooden gate which seemed clear to me was now so blurry

The dart from the gun had struck my flanks and it’s content rapidly spread through my veins.

“Silver” my howling weakened into a whimper as the drug took hold of me.

The guards rushed towards me, surrounding me. One guard pinned me to the ground with his knee pressed on my back. I still had a little strength left in me and I struggled hard but the drug was rapidly rendering me powerless

“Got her” he said to the other guards.

I had no atom of strength left in me as I just stared weakly at the feet of the guards that surrounded me. Slowly, darkness crept in.

*****

I opened my eyes slowly and I tried to move my feet but they were too heavy to move. I sat up for a while to regain a little strength. After few minutes, I could move my legs but they were not firm enough to carry my weight, so I had to make use of my knees. Crawling to the door was a difficult task seeing that there was only a tiny source of light which came from the little window beside the door.

“Lila… Lila” I heard a familiar voice whisper my name.

I slowly got up, supporting myself with the window rail and I could see a figure standing just in front of the steel window. I twitched my eyes to see who it was

“Gabriel?” I asked weakly

“Yes. How are you feeling?”

“You need to get me out of here” I begged desperately

Gabriel’s eyes saddened “I don’t know if that’ll be possible” the sadness in his voice could be clearly heard

I struck my fists agains the concrete walls “What do you mean?”

“We don’t have much time”

At this point, it was obvious he wasn’t saying everything that he knew

“You need to tell me everything that’s going on inside the mansion” I roared in anger

“Shhh” he lifted his hands to his lips and looked around to be sure no one was in range

“Alpha Ethan wants you dead!”
