“Hey Sophe, we’re back,” I tell my friend softly, “We wanted to see how things are going in here. How are you feeling?”

Sophie is panting, and her grimace clearly communicates her pain level. I fearfully glance at the doctor, and she looks as worried as I am.

“The baby is coming,” the doctor tells us, “We couldn’t delay labor any longer. ...
