Rose’s POV

I listened again as I heard him sigh, a little more seriously. “Rose, you’re overreacting. I’m all right, I’m on my way home. I will tell you all about it once I’m home, all right?”

I wanted to believe him. I did. But words did not soothe away the tightly coiled tension in my abdomen. I had a sense that something did not add up. And I could not shake it, no matter how much I wished I could.
