Cole's POV

The house felt more silent than it ought to have. I leaned on the couch in the living room and gazed indifferently at the glass coffee table.

It was too quiet in the house. There were no gentle feet. Not even a soft humming. There was no sign of Amelia. And I was at fault. I couldn't blame her for leaving without turning.

With a slow exhale I squeezed the bridge of my nose. Did I really think she would smile at me as if nothing were wrong?
