The silence was broken by my phone's sharp ring. I reached for it anticipating yet another useless message but my fingers froze when I saw the sender's name.

Barnabas.

I gritted my teeth and opened the message. The Garden of the Soleil. 8 p.m. An eatery in Paris.

Immediately my mind was on high alert. Why now? Why here?

Sending cryptic messages without any justification was not Barnabas style. He was exact. Every word he said had meaning.
