True Love

Jayden Point of View.

With that judgmental look on me and Jane completely drunk in my arms, I couldn't deny it.

"I can't believe what I'm seeing," Simon grumbled with a disapproving look on his face.

"I told you! They can't hide it! You should've seen the jealousy on the dance floor, even a blind person would notice they're having something," Jessi emphasized, and I knew it was her who ratted me out. Even though it was ironic for me to be upset about a friend's betrayal while I was betraying my best friend, I lowered my head, feeling that she didn't value our friendship.

"It's because he can't give my corn cob to anyone!" Jane said, smiling, while Simon seemed confused by what she said.

"Corn cob?" Simon asked, confused, and I shook my head.

"Don't even ask, Simon," I advised, and he rolled his eyes, pulling at his hair in frustration.

She hugged me and started kissing my neck while Simon ran his hands over his head, not knowing what to do. Jessi tried to calm him down, but I knew she was judging me too.

"Is she the married woman you're in love with?" Simon asked, and Jane jumped up and down in celebration.

"He loves me!" Jane said, laughing more and more as she clung to me, and I tried to avoid her advances.

"My God, Daon can't see her like this," Jessi commented, worried.

"You couldn't control yourself once, Jayden? How long has this been going on? How? When?" Simon asked, unable to complete even one sentence.

"Simon, I didn't know she was his wife when we first got together, and when I found out, it was too late," I explained, knowing that no one would understand me.

"What do you mean 'too late'?" Simon asked, putting his hands on his hips.

"When I found out, it was too late because I was already in love with her," I explained, looking down.

"How could you do this to your best friend, Jayden? I can't believe this. If Jessi hadn't called me here to see with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it," Simon complained, and I knew he would never forgive me for this, even though it wasn't with him.

"I brought a bottle of water, and we needed to make her drink it. This way, she'll end up talking too much," Jessi suggested, and I agreed.

I took the bottle of water, opened it, and handed it to Jane, but she refused.

"No! I want tequila!" Jane stated, pushing the bottle away.

"No more tequila!" I said, trying to set some limits for her, knowing that with just one word from her, I would do whatever she wanted.

"But why?" Jane asked with a whiny voice, and I almost melted, but knew I needed to be firm.

"Because you're drunk. Come on, Jane, open your mouth!" Jessi demanded.

She looked like a child and, after much fuss, ended up drinking the water.

"Daon is already worried about her disappearance," Simon commented.

"He can't see her now!" Jessi asserted, looking almost as desperate as I was.

"You're lucky that Louyse is hitting on him nonstop, so he's distracted by her," Simon commented, relieved.

"See? He's with someone else too!" I claimed, trying to shift some of the blame off me.

"No, Jayden, Louyse hit on him, he refused, and now she's crying. He's just consoling her as a friend, something you don't know what is!" Simon said, irritated, and Jane shrank back.

"Is he angry?" she whispered in my ear, but everyone heard. She was laughing and hugging me, oblivious to what was happening.

"Look, leave her with me, I'll take care of her. You two go outside and keep Daon away from here!" Jessi demanded.

Jane was hugging me, and I didn't want to leave her, I wanted to take her with me and take care of her myself, but I knew that wasn't possible. I tried to step away from her, but she hugged me even tighter.

"Come on, Jane, let's wash your face a bit," Jessi called, and I sighed, worried.

"Thank you for doing this," I said, knowing even before they spoke that they weren't doing it for me.

"We're not doing it for you, we're doing it for Daon," Simon assured, with pursed lips, unable to look me in the eye.

"He doesn't deserve any of this," Jessi reminded me but shrugged. "Go now, this is not the time to argue. Come on, Jane!" The brunette addressed Jane, who shook her head.

"No! I don't want to leave my corn cob, it's mine!" Jane muttered, and I tried not to laugh while they looked at me for answers.

"Go with her, I'll keep your corn cob safe," I assured her, trying to calm her, and she reluctantly agreed.

"Don't give it to anyone!" Jane demanded, and I agreed.

"I promise!" I assured her, and with much difficulty, she let go of me. Simon and I left the bathroom, leaving her with Jessi, and returned to the table. Simon didn't want to look at me, and I knew he was right.

"So, are you going to take me home?" Leeji asked, grabbing my neck, and I moved away, leaving her confused.

"No, better leave it for another day," I said, dodging her touch, and noticed she was irritated.

"I can't understand you! From the first day, you hit on me, and now you're running away. What changed, Jayden?" Leeji asked, pouting in displeasure.

I stopped to think, and it didn't make sense for me not to want to be with her since Jane was with Daon, but I simply had no desire.

"I did. I changed! I can't explain it, but I changed," I affirmed, knowing that whatever happened between Jane and me had changed me forever, and even though I had no idea what would happen between us, I was betting everything on us.

She was even more confused, and I watched as Louyse cried on Daon's shoulder, making him look sadder and sadder. He didn't want to hurt her. Daon had always been someone who cared about everyone around him, always practiced empathy, and had a big heart. That's why I understood why Simon was so upset with me. I was disappointed in myself too, but I couldn't fight what I felt.

"I'm going to look for Jane. Can someone take care of Lou?" Daon asked, visibly worried about his wife's whereabouts.

Desperation hit, and I didn't know what to say. After all, if he talked to Jane now, she might say something.

"No, she was very drunk. She wasn't making sense. It's better to leave her with Jessi," I explained, and he jumped up.

"What? My wife is in that state, and you didn't tell me anything?" Daon asked, outraged.

His expression changed completely, and I think in thirteen years, I've never seen him so angry. He left, stomping, to look for her. Simon and I looked at each other, and as if we had the same thought, we got up at the same time and followed him. He searched the entire club until he decided to go to the bathroom and knocked on the door until Jessi opened it, revealing Jane with her face all wet. I was afraid of what she would say when she saw Daon, afraid she would say something that revealed our relationship. But what she did to me was much worse. When she saw him enter the bathroom, her face lit up in a way it never lit up for me. Her eyes sparkled, and she smiled from ear to ear. When she opened her mouth, her voice came out soft and whiny in a tone she had never used with me.

"My love!" Jane called out to Daon, and the way her eyes lit up when she looked at him confirmed everything her mouth always told me and I refused to believe she really loved him.

She hugged him and seemed like a child receiving a present. She was so happy looking at him that, even though she always said she only loved him, I had never believed it until now.

"Love, what happened?" Daon asked, with an innocent smile on his face, and she made the same face children make when caught in the act of making a mess.

"I drank a little too much," Jane said, pouting, and Daon smiled.

"Just a little?" he asked, and she agreed.

"She drank so much that she got sick and even messed up her dress," Jessi explained, and Daon sighed, but just like me, he was also melting for her.

"Come on, I'll take you home, love!" Daon affirmed, and she smiled.

"Yes! Take me home, my prince charming," Jane asked, and tried to walk to him but stumbled, so he picked her up. She gasped and then started laughing in a way that filled the room. When she stopped laughing, she looked into his eyes and melted, putting her hands around his neck.

"You're so handsome, my love! I love you so much. You are the love of my life!" Jane affirmed repeatedly, and each word from her was like a stab in my heart. She kissed him, and he smiled. Then she continued. "You smell so good!" She said, snuggling into his arms, laying her head on his shoulder, and for a moment, it seemed like I wasn't there. He walked past me with her in his arms, and she didn't look at me for a second. She had her eyes closed, seeming to enjoy the sensation of being in his arms.

"Guys, I'm going home. I'm going to take a taxi because I also drank and am not in a condition to drive. See you tomorrow," Daon affirmed, and for some reason, the idea of leaving them alone made me panic.

"No, I'll take you! I only drank a little when I arrived," I assured him, and Daon looked at me, surprised.

"Are you sure?" he asked, and I felt Simon's hand on my shoulder.

"Are you sure, Jayden?" Simon asked, looking at me with wide eyes as a warning sign, and I knew the path I was taking was dangerous, but I didn't care.

"Yes, let's go!"
