Jayden laughed at my reaction while I almost choked upon hearing it.
"Yeah, didn’t you two team up to deliver drunk rappers last night? You even carried me up the stairs," Daon said.
I gave a nervous laugh, but he didn’t seem to notice.
"That’s true!" Jayden affirmed.
He smiled at me and pulled me into his arms.
"Shall we go for lunch, my princess?" Daon asked.
"Let's go!" I responded.
"Are you coming too, Jayden?" Daon inquired.
My heart raced, and I saw the satisfied smile on Jayden's face.
"Hmm, lunch... I don’t know..." Jayden teased.
He was provoking me, but his smile faded as he saw Daon rest his hand on my butt.
"Better not! You two go ahead!" Jayden decided.
"Alright! Since I've finished everything I needed to do, I'll take the rest of the day to spend with my wife," Daon declared.
Jayden looked at a pen in his hand and seemed serious.
"Okay!" Jayden conceded.
"See you tomorrow!" Daon said.
"See ya. Bye, Jane!" Jayden played with my name, and I stared at him seriously.
"Bye!" I said.
We left, and I thanked God it was just the two of us. We went to a Korean barbecue restaurant, and Daon cut the meat with scissors for me, always keeping my plate full.
"Are you trying to fatten me up?" I joked.
"Of course, in case of an emergency, I can have a barbecue with you!" Daon teased.
"Hmm, you want to eat me, huh?" I said in a malicious tone.
"You never change, do you?" Daon laughed, and we started laughing like two teenagers.
We had a lot of fun at lunch and then went to the dealership to choose my car. I didn’t understand anything about cars, so I just chose the color while Daon asked the salesman about the details that really mattered. They promised to deliver the car the next day, and we left, heading to the mall next door to get ice cream and buy some things for the house. Daon wanted me to decorate the house as I liked, so we bought curtains, rugs, pillows, bed linens, and even some kitchen utensils I felt were missing.
We left the mall almost at dinner time and decided to go home and order food since I wanted to start putting the things we bought in place tonight. We got home and ordered fried chicken while we changed the curtains, bed linens, and placed the rug in the living room. When we were satisfied with the result, we looked at each other with all the joy this moment provided. We were really starting a life together, and it felt wonderful.
"Shall we take a bath now?" Daon suggested.
"Hmm, I'd love to, but what if the food arrives while we’re in the middle of it?" I replied.
"True, we’ll save it for later then," Daon agreed.
"You go take a bath while I wait for the food," I offered.
"You just want to eat all the food and leave me hungry, don’t you?" Daon teased.
"Damn! You caught me!" I laughed.
We laughed like two kids, and he went upstairs to take a bath while I set the plates and cups on the coffee table in the living room. I lit some candles to create a romantic atmosphere, and after a while, I heard the doorbell ring. I ran to answer it with a smile on my face, and when I opened the door, I saw Jayden standing there, staring at me.
"Jayden..." I said, surprised.
"Where's Daon?" Jayden asked.
"He's taking a bath! And you? What are you doing here?" I inquired.
"I came because I can't stop thinking about you, Jane..." Jayden confessed.
I stared into his beautiful almond-shaped eyes that seemed to show me his soul, and as much as I felt he was being sincere, it didn’t change anything.
"You’ll have to manage, Jayden!" I said softly, feeling desperation take over me for fear that Daon might hear. He put his hands in his pockets and lowered his head, looking disappointed.
"What do you feel?" Jayden asked.
I gave a mocking laugh because that question only had one answer, and I knew it deep down in my heart.
"I love Daon!" I declared.
"Not about him, about me. What do you feel for me?" Jayden insisted.
"Nothing!" I lied.
It was his turn to give a mocking laugh.
"Liar!" Jayden accused.
He stepped closer, and I took a step back.
"I know you feel something for me! It’s obvious when I kiss you or when I'm inside you," Jayden continued.
"That’s just lust, Jayden, but it means nothing because I feel that for my husband too," I argued.
"The same way? With the same intensity?" Jayden challenged.
"Even more!" I asserted.
He lowered his head.
"So it's better with him?" Jayden asked.
"Of course it is! There’s no comparison, Jayden. Daon and I are a couple; we have intimacy, feelings, a history. With you, I have two bathroom hook-ups at clubs that meant nothing!" I exclaimed.
"Then why does your body tremble when I get close?" Jayden asked, cornering me against the wall.
"Why do you look into my eyes when we have sex?" Jayden pressed, his face inches from mine.
"Why do you lose control when I kiss you?" Jayden demanded.
I moved away from him, and he grabbed my arm.
"Jayden, please, Daon is upstairs!" I pleaded.
"I won’t do anything here. Do you think I don’t feel bad too? He’s my best friend. We’ve worked together for over thirteen years. Do you think I don’t feel like shit for wanting you so much? But I can’t control it, Jane; it’s stronger than me!" Jayden confessed.
"Stop it, Jayden!" I begged.
"Please, let’s meet tomorrow to talk!" Jayden pleaded.
"No, Jayden! We have nothing to talk about!" I insisted.
"Then I have no choice; Daon needs to know everything!" Jayden threatened.
"Jayden? Did something happen? Why are you here?" Daon’s voice came from the stairs.
Daon had come down wearing a bathrobe and was smiling at him, making my heart almost leap out of my chest.
"I came because I need to talk to you about something very serious!" Jayden declared.
