My phone rings at 9:47 PM.

Nathan's name flashes on the screen.

"Nathan?"

"Daniel's been shot." His words come fast. Clipped. "He's alive. St. Mary's Hospital. Come now."

The phone slips from my hand.

Harper catches it before it hits the floor. "Amelia? What's wrong?"

I can't speak. Can't breathe. The room spins.

Harper grabs my shoulders. "Amelia, talk to me."

"Daniel." The word barely makes it past my lips. "Shot. Hospital."
