Morning arrives with cruel clarity, and the adrenaline from planning with Daniel has finally worn off.

I wake to find Daniel standing at the window in his pajamas. His injured arm is still in a sling.

"What time is it?" My voice is rough from sleep.

"Six." He doesn't turn around. "Nathan's team arrives at eight to brief me on final positions."

I sit up, pulling the sheet around myself. "You didn't sleep."

"Couldn't." He finally looks at me, and the exhaustion in his eyes confirms ...
