Amelia's POV

I don't go back to my desk when I get out of the bathroom. Instead, I find the emergency stairwell—the one nobody uses because we all take elevators like civilized people. The metal door closes behind me with an echoing clang, sealing me into concrete and fluorescent lighting.

I sit on the landing between floors nineteen and twenty. Put my head between my knees. Try to breathe.

But the air won't come. My lungs feel crushed, ribs too tight, everything collapsing inward.
