The interrogation room is cold. Detective Kingsley sits across from me. Daniel stands by the window. Protective. Silent.

"Walk me through it again," Kingsley says. "Who sent the threatening text?"

"Unknown number." I pull up the screenshot on my phone. Show her. "Some nights ago. Warning me to stay away from Daniel. Photo of my mother."

Kingsley studies the image. "And you didn't report it?"

"I was going to. Then the apartment break-in happened."
