“I’m sure Devan is a normal man. There’s no way he’s never touched a woman! I need to find out what’s really going on!”
Vania stood in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection with determination in her eyes. For three years of marriage, she had remained silent, burying her pain and suspicions deep within. But not today. Today, she had enough. She put on a long coat and grabbed her car keys. It was time to uncover the truth about her husband.
Her footsteps were swift as she approached Devan’s office building—a luxurious high-rise she had only passed by, never daring to enter. As she stepped into the lobby, she ignored the stares of the employees who recognized her as Mrs. Devandra Montgomery. She didn’t need small talk. She had only one goal: to find the truth.
“I’m sorry, Mrs. Montgomery. Mr. Devan is currently in a closed meeting,” the receptionist said nervously.
“There’s no need to announce me. I’m his wife,” Vania replied coldly, striding confidently toward the top floor where Devan’s office was located.
As the elevator doors opened, her heart pounded erratically. Then she heard it—moaning voices from behind the double wooden doors at the end of the hallway.
“Lyra... come on, Lyra... I can’t take it anymore,” Devan’s voice moaned clearly.
Vania froze. Her breath caught. But her resolve didn’t waver. She shoved open the office doors, revealing a scene that shattered her entire world.
Lyra was straddling Devan’s body, both of them nearly naked, his face flushed with desire. There was no room for denial. It was all in plain sight.
“They’re really cheating... I can’t stay silent anymore!” Vania stormed into the room, her eyes burning with fury.
Devan was shocked, immediately pushing Lyra off him. “Vania! This isn’t what it looks like!”
“Not what it looks like?!” Vania snapped. “You bastard, Devan! You hurt me—and now you want to hold on to me after playing behind my back?!”
Lyra stood up and slipped her dress on, smirking. “You should know your place, Vania. You’re not the only woman in the world.”
Vania’s slap landed hard across Lyra’s face. “And you should know your limits, you cheap woman!”
Vania turned away, tears streaming down her cheeks as she ran out of the room, leaving behind the two traitors who destroyed her heart.
“Vania! Wait! I can explain!” Devan hurriedly dressed and rushed after the woman who had filled his days for the last three years.
But Lyra grabbed his arm.
“Let her go, Devan. She deserves to be happy,” Lyra said calmly.
Devan yanked her hand away roughly. “You’re just my ex, Lyra! You had no right to do this! You destroyed my marriage!”
Lyra laughed, though her eyes shimmered with tears. “Damn it... you really fell in love with her.”
Devan stared at her, his voice bitter. “Yes, I did fall in love with her. And now I’ve lost her because of my stupidity!”
“I won’t let this go, Devan. You’ll regret leaving me again!”
But Devan didn’t care anymore. He rushed out, sprinting down the hallway, pushing through the lobby, hoping he could catch Vania before she was gone. But it was too late. Her car sped out of the office gates, leaving only dust and heartbreak behind.
Inside the car, Vania gripped the steering wheel tightly, tears pouring down her face. She didn’t know where she was going, but one thing was certain: her heart was broken. And this time, she wouldn’t go back.
“Enough, Devan… Enough of your lies…”
Meanwhile, Devan returned to his office, breathing heavily. Broken. Hollow. The world he thought was stable had collapsed under the weight of his own mistakes. He dropped onto the sofa and stared at his desk, where a photo from their wedding day still stood proudly.
“What have I done…” he whispered.
Devan picked up his phone and called Hanz.
“Hanz, I need your help. Vania found out everything.”
Elsewhere in the city, Vania stopped at a small park they used to visit when they were still happy. She sat on a wooden bench, gently placing her hands on her still-empty belly.
“Why did this have to happen to me...?” she whispered.
Her thoughts wandered to all the sacrifices she’d made, all the pain she’d endured just to protect her marriage. But in the end, even a love that deep wasn’t enough for Devan.
Wiping away her tears, Vania stood up and took a deep breath. She wouldn’t fall apart. Not anymore.
As the sky turned red with dusk, her phone rang. Devan’s name flashed on the screen. But she ignored it.
The phone kept ringing. Vania stared at it for a moment, then whispered softly:
“From today on… I’m no longer yours, Devan.”
