The engine of my power bike growls beneath me as I cut through the empty road, the forest swallowing the last signs of civilization behind me.

If today goes well, I might get lucky. I might get more time with Ella before I die.

After yesterday’s doctor’s visit, it’s clear the damages are irreparable.
