Chapter 8 HIS WORRIES

FINN

Every now and then, I made sure I heard from Jalal concerning how Freya was doing and how her training sessions were. To be honest, I suggested the whole putting Freya in training to Jalal because I didn’t want my Luna to look weak to her people.

Yes, Luna. For the past few days now, I’ve been gathering important information to prove Freya’s innocence to the council and the pack and I confidently feel that I am almost close to the truth.

Today happens to be Julien’s wedding with Willow. I want to be there for my Beta and best friend but the presence of Willow annoys me. Willow was an omega Freya was fond of. One will at a first glance think they were related but she failed to acknowledge that friendship and supported those who believed Freya murdered Zara.

To be honest, I do not know how Willow and Julien became a thing because I have never for once bothered to ask and Julien has not opened up to me also. After Freya left the pack, I noticed the change in Julien. Always so quiet and lost in his own thoughts. I know he definitely blames himself and worries about his sister and I have thought about telling him how Freya was doing outside the pack but I feared it would cause serious repercussions.

“Alpha, everything is set for the journey.” Philip informed with a respectful bow. Even though I want nothing to do with Willow, I have to go to the wedding for Julien’s sake. I had personally prepared everything they needed for the wedding against Julien’s request. He wanted something simple but I wanted it to be memorable for him.

“Let’s get going.” I walked out the room, performing a short breath-in, breath-out session to calm myself down and not cause any problem during the ceremony.

“You are leaving without us?!” Camille stood at the end of the hallway with Laura. They were beautifully adorned in a nice gown all prepared for the wedding. Laura wore a simple but elegant soft pink gown with her hair tied and the necklace I had gifted her round her neck. She looked so cute and innocent while Camille on the other end wore an extravagant white gown, hair styled in a messy updo and an expensive necklace piece on her neck.

“Tsk! Always wanting to look like the main character.” I shook my head, while Philip let out a short and light giggle.

“You are already dressed so tug along.” I was in no way ready for her taunts and tantrums. I prefer spending most of my time with Laura because she understood my feelings and knew when I needed her company and when I did not but for Camille, she was everywhere. Even when she is fully aware I need to have space and a quiet time, she will still invade.

“I’m riding with you.” There she goes again. “I will have a ride prepared for you.” All this while, I was on my way to the already set car while the two ladies followed closely behind.

“I’m not taking no for an answer.” And as always, before I could say anything, she had already made her way to the car and sat in it.

“No need to worry about her.” Laura’s ever soothing voice came from behind. “If you don’t feel like riding with any of us, I can join her in the car while you get another.” She stood in front of me with a bright smile that seemed to take away people’s worries except mine. Anytime she was in front of me, I was reminded of Freya– so carefree and always with a smile plastered on her face.

“Don’t bother. We will ride together.” My cold dominion took cover and my wolf kept telling me it wasn’t Freya. I left her standing, probably crying but I cared less about that.

Camille kept talking all through the ride and demeaning Laura in one way or the other but Laura never retaliated. The long noisy ride came to an end in front of the big black gate. That was the Blackwood’s owned hall and the biggest one at that.

Just like humans, we had our own paparazzi and yes, they do what humans do too. The lights from the camera were the first to meet us when we got down from the camera and of course, our main character pushed forward to be the main person.

I took Laura’s hand and pushed through the crowd of reporters. Camille was left behind to deal with her own issue.

“Thank you.” Laura whispered quietly. “You remember my dislike for all those clicking lights and the crowd.”

I gave out a light smile, “Enjoy yourself. I will be back.” Everybody at the gathering wanted to have a talk with me but I wanted to meet my Beta and know how he feels about the whole wedding.

Seated on the chair was Julien, staring blankly into space. “Julien,” I called, moving closer to him but no response came.

“Julien,” I called for the second time and once again silence met me.

“Julien,” I touched his shoulders gently. “You are lost.”

“I never wanted this Alpha. I didn’t plan for this to happen.” He was strong not to cry but I was happy he was finally letting me in. I kept quiet and did nothing to interrupt him.

“My mate died a few weeks back and here I am, getting married to somebody I know nothing of.” I shook his shoulder calmly and for the first time in weeks let go of my Alpha domineer.

“You still have time to end everything with her if you don’t want to be with her.” He stared at me, as if he wasn’t sure of the choice.

“I want to but I can't.” I furrowed my brows in confusion.

“Nobody will ever try to punish you when you cancel this wedding, trust me.” I tried giving him assurance but his shoulders slumped in defeat.

“It’s not about that.” He took in a deep breath, shutting his eyes in the process. “Willow is pregnant.”

I stared at him in disbelief, wondering when and how they got together for that to happen but on a second thought, I felt it was just an act to pin Julien down in the same way their plan took Freya out of the pack.
