CHAPTER 6 THE BEGINNING OF DOOM

FREYA

“Rare breed!” A group of ladies in black with what looked like some magical stick in their hand said in unison. The cloud was mystical, weather too cold for a normal human to survive and the night too calm. The only source of light was the moon, a rare kind of moon, the blood moon. Their faces held no expression or maybe it did…but an unreadable one.

They surrounded me, their eyes piercing deep into my soul and invisible walls closing in on me. Then she came out, her hair covered with a scarf and a single strand of gray hair visible to me. Her eyes shone like the moon, so bright and painful to the eyes. I couldn’t look for long, it hurt… so freaking much. “She is meant to die. Her fate is as dark as the bloodreaper!” Her voice boomed so loud the earth shook violently. I kept looking at the unfamiliar faces, my mind a jumbled mess of thoughts and my body numb with fear.

“What… are you talking about?” My voice shook as I gathered a little courage to speak.

“The prophecy hunters are new, the gatekeeper is too weak and the one who had sworn the oath of protection is too powerless to function. Your fate is closer than you think child. Be ready for it comes with a lot of sacrifices!”

“What….” Then just like that, the tensed environment calmed. A bright light shone on my face making it a little difficult for me to open my eyes. I tossed uncomfortably and finally, opened my eyes to the not so familiar environment. My brows furrowed in confusion and my mind trying so hard to recall what happened before but nothing came.

Slowly but steadily, I got off the bed and made my way towards the door all the while my eyes kept searching to at least spot something familiar but nothing.

“Ouch!” A sharp pain pierced through me as I mistakenly stepped on what looked like a thorn. “The hell is a thorn doing in here!” I screamed, enduring the pain as I sat on the floor. The door yanked open almost immediately and like a lost sheep, I quivered backwards in fear.

My eyes took in the man in front of me. His black shoes neatly polished, joggers hanging loosely on him, his well ironed shirt and then finally to his face.

“Gosh!” I move back once again in fear. “Could… could you.. Umm..” I stuttered. His face was stoic, void of any emotion making it difficult to read him. His arm was crossed on his chest and his stares bore right into my soul. Unable to bear it anymore, I cleared my throat and darted my gaze away from him.

He moved towards me with a calculated step while I on the other hand kept moving back till my back hit the wall. “Shoot.” I whispered when I realized I was cornered now and there was nowhere to go now.

He bent down and gently took my wounded feet into his hand.

“It did its job perfectly.” He said, staring right at the thorn still stuck in my flesh. I raised my brows, silently questioningly if I heard right.

“Aaaaaah!” A painful scream tore my throat as he took out the thorn so fast I wouldn’t have noticed if not for the pain.

“You are not supposed to act this weak for a breed of your kind. Tsk!” He snorted in disgust and a little farther leaving me on the floor.

“Your training starts today, in fact now.” He said that casually, ignoring the fact that I was still wounded and my wolf Ava was doing nothing to help me heal dammit. This man right here is messing up my whole mind without bothering to answer the questions in my head.

Like, who this man right here was? How I ended up here after the almost death encounter and if I actually saw Finn or I was just hallucinating. For the part about Finn, I disregard that part because I am a hundred percent sure he would never for once try to save me after humiliating, rejecting and banishing me. Moreover, he sees me as a murderer who does not deserve to be his Luna and for the fact that the person I called a best friend betrayed me, icks me anytime I think about anything that has to do with Emberpack.

I do not know this man right here but if he is going to train me, then I accept. I honestly can not wait to plan out a revenge on all those who are responsible for my banishment and suffering. I will make sure I find out every single person behind Zara’s death and make them pay.

“Your eyes,” He pointed out so calmly and not from fear. My hand involuntarily moved to my face as if I could detect what was wrong with my eyes by touching them but that was in no way possible.

“They are white.” My eyes widened in surprise and mouth went wide open but he was so calm about the whole thing. My heart was beating so loud one would think it was taken out of my chest area.

“At least that confirms you can calm the Alpha’s rage.” I was thrown into a fist of thought again. What in the moongoddess name does he mean by calming the Alpha’s rage?

“I know you have a lot going on in your mind but for now, the only thing I can tell you is to allow fate do its work and not try to fight it.” All this while, he kept moving in circles around me indirectly intimidating me in the process. I mean, his voice speaks command, his stoic face and tied long hair gave him the look of a man in his late 40s or perhaps older.

All his talks about fate bored me and I couldn’t help but yawn. He noticed my reaction and came to a halt almost immediately.

“My name is Jalal and I will be training you from now.” I nodded obediently even though I didn’t know what training he was talking about but of course the first thing that came into my mind was yunno, the physical kind of training that has to do with learning combats, how to use bows and guns.

“There are others down there already in the process. Get ready and be down in five minutes.” He left as swiftly as he came.

“The heck is wrong with him. I’m wounded for fucks sake!” I run my hands through my hair in frustration. I freaking didn’t sign up for this. Yes, this was going to be of good help to me but he should be empathetic enough to give me some time to heal.

I’m not that weak and neither is my wolf. We will heal soon when given some time. Talking about my wolf, I’ve not heard anything from Ava since I woke up and it's truly disturbing.

A cold breeze from nowhere blew into the room. I wrapped my hand around me trying to wade off the cold but it was as if it came to stay.

“What is happening?!” I kept looking around, shivering in fear and cold.

‘The night the moon shines brighter than any other day

She will be born… The very one the prophecy demands

Her blood is life, her blood is destruction’

A voice began whispering out and suddenly, the cold in the room intensified. My body began lifting into the sky, obeying some unknown command I seem to be unaware of. I felt chained and could not move a finger.

‘Fate can only be delayed and not changed.

The hour we all await for draws near,

Her powers take full manifestation now.

Failure to control kills her

Failure to control is doom to everyone.’

“The Prophecy!” A voice screamed so loud it hurt my eardrum and I suddenly felt a liquid leave my ear.

“What..” That was the last thing I could say before everything went dark and quiet.
