Emilia’s POV:
The roar shattered the night. My heart lurched, every muscle coiling instinctively. Damian growled low beside me, his black wolf tense, ears pricked. The Silverthorn wolves froze, their eyes wide, fangs bared, claws digging into the dirt.
I swallowed hard, forcing my wolf to stay calm. This wasn’t just any threat. This was something primal, ancient—and terrifying.
Damian’s voice was low, dangerous. “Get behind me.”
I hesitated. Normally, I would have protested. I was the Alpha. I should be in the front. But something in his tone made the hairs on my neck stand on end. He wasn’t exaggerating. Whatever was coming, it wasn’t human. It wasn’t wolf. It was something else entirely.
The shadow moved first—huge, impossibly fast, a massive silhouette streaking through the trees. I caught glimpses of it: fur dark as midnight, eyes glowing like embers, teeth sharp enough to tear through steel.
My wolf growled, claws digging into the ground. My pack members behind me shifted nervously. Lara whimpered softly.
“It’s huge,” she whispered.
“I know,” I muttered, heart hammering. “We need to keep it away from the pack.”
Damian’s wolf surged forward, blocking my path. “No,” he growled. “We draw it to the clearing. You need to see it—and survive it.”
I hesitated. My instincts screamed to run, to hide, to fight—but something told me he was right. This wasn’t just a threat. This was part of my father’s past, part of the debt I now had to settle.
The creature leapt into the clearing. It landed silently, impossibly light for its size, and the ground shook beneath it. My breath caught.
It was a wolf—but not any wolf I had ever seen. Its fur was black with streaks of silver, jagged like lightning. Its eyes burned gold, intelligent and wild. A deep, guttural growl rolled from its throat, echoing through the trees.
Kade and his pack froze in terror, stumbling backward. Even Damian’s black wolf crouched low, muscles trembling with raw energy.
“You… you can’t be real,” I whispered, stepping forward, awe and fear mixing in my chest.
The wolf tilted its head, sniffing the air. Its gaze locked onto me. And in that moment, I knew.
It knew me.
“Alpha Emilia,” Damian said quietly, voice low, almost reverent. “It’s him. The legacy… your father’s creation.”
I blinked, disbelief hitting me like a punch. “Creation? What… what do you mean?”
Before he could answer, the creature lunged—not at us, but at Kade. Teeth clamped around the traitor’s arm, dragging him to the ground. Kade screamed, silver fur and muscle tearing through his defenses.
The Silverthorn wolves scattered, terrified. My wolf surged forward, instincts screaming. I needed to act, to control the chaos, to protect my pack.
“Everyone, stay behind me!” I shouted.
I shifted fully, claws digging into the ground, fangs bared. Damian matched my movements, a black blur beside me. The legacy wolf stood between us and the chaos, its growl low and threatening, ears pinned.
And then it spoke—not with words, but with thoughts. A deep, echoing voice inside my mind.
Alpha Emilia… you are the key. Protect your pack, survive, or all will fall.
I froze. The wolf wasn’t just a beast. It was sentient. It understood me. Knew me. And more than that… it demanded loyalty.
Kade screamed again, trying to crawl free from the wolf’s jaws. I lunged, claws extended, ripping the chains from Lara’s wrists as I pulled her back. Blood smeared across my arms, sweat mixed with dirt, but I didn’t care. She was safe.
The legacy wolf turned its attention toward me, golden eyes glowing. I met its gaze, heart hammering, feeling a strange connection that went beyond instinct.
Damian growled low. “Don’t trust it too quickly. Legacy or not, it’s dangerous. Even your father feared it.”
“I don’t care,” I said through gritted teeth, stepping closer. “It’s here for a reason. And I’m going to use it.”
The wolf growled again, a low, rumbling warning that shook the ground beneath us. And then, as if understanding, it backed slightly, circling around me, waiting.
My wolf surged inside me. Power, raw and electrifying, coursed through my veins. This was bigger than anything I had faced. Bigger than Kade, the Silverthorn Pack, or the mine. This was my father’s shadow, alive, and demanding I step into the Alpha role fully.
I glanced at Damian. His eyes were sharp, calculating, but there was something else—a spark of trust. Or maybe hope.
“We need to take control of this,” I muttered. “We can’t run anymore. This is our fight.”
Damian nodded, teeth bared. “Then lead, Alpha.”
I took a deep breath, claws extended, eyes locked on the legacy wolf. It growled, a low, vibrating warning. But instead of attacking, it shifted slightly, tilting its head as if acknowledging me.
I stepped closer. This is it. My pulse surged. My wolf roared in unison with the legacy wolf.
“Follow me,” I whispered.
The golden-eyed wolf crouched, ready to leap. I glanced at Damian and Lara. “Stay close. And hold nothing back.”
The Silverthorn wolves regrouped, shaking from terror. Kade struggled on the ground, glaring at me with pure hatred.
“You’ll pay for this!” he hissed.
I grinned, teeth bared, claws flexing. “No. You’ll pay for betraying my pack.”
The legacy wolf leapt, a blur of silver and black. I followed, my own wolf surging forward, and Damian’s shadow falling perfectly in sync.
The battle that followed was unlike anything I had ever faced. Rocks and dirt flew as claws clashed, fangs tore through armor, and screams echoed under the moonlight. But this time, I wasn’t alone.
The legacy wolf fought beside me, powerful and controlled, every movement perfectly timed with mine. Damian and I moved as one, a deadly force of Alpha and protector, tearing through Kade’s pack. Every step, every strike, every growl pushed me further into my father’s shadow and deeper into my own power.
And through it all, I realized something terrifying: surviving the mine, Kade, and the Silverthorn Pack was only the beginning. The true test was only now beginning.
Because my father’s legacy… was alive.
And it was hungry.
