Serena POV

Serena sat behind her massive mahogany desk, staring at the stack of papers she hadn’t touched. The office was eerily silent, but it felt heavier than any storm outside. The confrontation with Damien replayed in her mind like a broken record. A bet. I was a bet. Her chest tightened at the memory, and her hands clenched the desk edge until her nails bit into her skin.

She had always prided herself on control, precision, composure. But today, that control had been ripped from her. And for what? A man who had used her… who had turned her life into a story for someone else’s amusement.

Serena leaned back, letting her head fall into her hands. The silence wrapped around her like a suffocating shroud. Every pulse in her body throbbed with a mixture of anger, shame, and heartbreak. She hated herself for trusting him. Hated that she had allowed herself to feel something real.

A faint knock at the door startled her. She wiped at her cheeks, hoping no one noticed the tremor in her hands, and snapped, “What?”

The door creaked open, and a junior assistant peeked in, shifting nervously. “Miss Serena… someone’s here… they say it’s urgent?”

Serena frowned, her mind already tense. “Who?”

The assistant swallowed. “It’s… um… Damien’s girlfriend.”

Her stomach dropped. She hadn’t even processed the confrontation yet, and now the next wave of chaos was barreling toward her. Her hands tightened into fists. So he’s been cheating? Or is it just assumptions? Doesn’t matter.

Before she could respond, the door burst open. A tall, impeccably dressed woman stormed in, confidence radiating like fire. “Serena Holt,” she spat, eyes blazing, “you’ve been playing with my man.”

Serena froze, lips parting. Every instinct screamed at her to stay composed, but fury bubbled beneath the surface. “Excuse me?”

“Don’t play dumb with me!” the woman snapped, stepping closer. “He’s mine, and I’m here to get the truth!”

The employees outside peeked in, whispers spreading like wildfire. Phones came out, cameras ready — the office, once a place of quiet professionalism, now felt like a battlefield.

Damien appeared in the doorway, his posture tense. “Wait—stop!” His voice carried authority, but Serena could see the panic behind his calm facade.

The girlfriend’s eyes narrowed. “Stay out of this! This is between me and her!”

Serena’s lips curled, the edge of her temper sharpening. “You think you can just come in here and—what? Threaten me?”

The woman laughed, bitter and sharp. “Threaten you? Ha! You’re the one who’s been manipulating him!”

Serena’s pulse spiked. “Manipulating him? Me? I—”

Damien stepped forward, pleading, “Stop! Both of you, please—”

But the storm had already erupted. Voices escalated, accusations flew, and the office staff stared, wide-eyed, unable to look away.

Serena’s mind flashed to Damien’s previous betrayal, the bet, the lies. How could he do this to me? After everything I’ve been through? She could feel tears prick at the corners of her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. Not here. Not now.

Damien’s thoughts were chaos, his chest tight. God, this is worse than I imagined. He had never expected her to confront him in public, and he had certainly not expected her to face his girlfriend at the same time. How do I fix this?

“You think you know him!” Serena shouted, her voice trembling with a mix of fury and hurt. “You don’t! You don’t know what he’s been through, what he’s done, or what he feels!”

The girlfriend’s lips curled into a smirk. “Oh, I know enough. And I know that you’re in his head, Serena. You’ve been manipulating him!”

That hit like a punch. Serena’s eyes narrowed, the fire in her veins matching the storm in her chest. “Manipulating him? Me? I—”

Damien’s hands went up, desperate. “Both of you, stop!”

The girlfriend scoffed. “You’re pathetic. You think he’s yours? Think again!”

Serena’s fingers dug into her desk. Every word, every accusation was a spark on dry kindling. She wanted to scream, to hit, to make someone pay for all the betrayal and chaos that had seeped into her life.

“You think you can just walk in here and take what you want?” Serena’s voice grew louder, sharper, cutting through the office like glass. “You have no idea what’s at stake, or who you’re dealing with!”

Damien’s heart pounded. She’s going to snap. I can’t let her… I have to say something.

“I never wanted this!” he shouted, stepping closer, but his words were swallowed by the roar of tension.

The girlfriend’s face twisted in anger. “Save it! He’s mine, and you—”

“Enough!” Serena’s single word was like thunder, silencing the room. Everyone froze. Even the air seemed to hold its breath.

Serena’s chest heaved. Her hands trembled, and the trembling finally showed in her voice. “You don’t get it. None of you do. He is not yours to claim. And you…” Her gaze locked on Damien’s girlfriend. “…You have no idea who you’re dealing with.”

The woman flinched but didn’t step back. “Then prove it!”

Serena’s eyes flashed, her mind racing. She wanted to scream, throw something, make the world feel her pain. But instead, she straightened her posture, chin high, voice sharp and cutting. “Leave. Now. Before I make a mistake I’ll regret.”

For a moment, the room was silent. Then the girlfriend scoffed and stormed toward the door, slamming it behind her. Whispers and murmurs filled the office like wildfire.

Damien exhaled, his body sagging with relief and guilt. He had survived the verbal storm, but at what cost? I’ve broken her. I’ve lost her trust. And now there’s no going back.

Serena sank into her chair, head in hands again, shaking slightly. She hated how powerless she felt, hated how much this hurt, and hated that a man could affect her so deeply after everything she had endured.

Outside her office, employees whispered, eyes wide, phones out. Some had recorded snippets, some had texted, and in a few minutes, the office would be buzzing with rumors. The chaos wasn’t over — it had only just begun.

Damien’s reflection in the glass door caught her eye for a brief second — the guilt, the longing, the helplessness — and something inside her cracked further. The calm she clung to, the order she had built, was shattered.

And somewhere in the city, the storm that began with a bet and a lie was spreading, ready to consume everyone involved.
