CHAPTER THREE
"David, your work has been duly recognized. You've served dutifully," the president began, tapping his fingers on the long glass table that separated David from him. "Your award is long overdue and ready to be received.”
David, who had still not recovered from the disappointment, barely nodded and fell back in thought, half trying to understand the reason Sandra could do that to him, and the remaining half beating himself over and over again for falling in love with her.
Then his thoughts went on to flow in the direction of self-pity before strengthening itself in revenge, a revenge he was ready to take years to execute.
"You'll be awarded a five star general," the president cut through his brooding, pleased with himself for being the awardee to such a perfect gentleman who had finished the mission one hundred percent.
He grinned even wider at the thought of its cost effectiveness and even how best he had hid his mission from his wife for three whole years. "You're our best in all aspects. Name your price, anything, I'll give it to you," the president was all smiles at the successful completion of the mission. He hadn't expected it to be that easily concluded.
David, who had been told many times to name his price, was shifting uncomfortably on his seat, wondering if he did look so much like a market commodity that needed to be bargained on for a price.
It seemed as if he was to be bought and after the recent happenings, like a prize cow.
"Well, whatever you deem fit to give me, I'll accept," A statement he wouldn't have naturally said in his right senses, slipped out as he kept on harbouring anger and thought of revenge towards Sandra whom he had given his all and all.
"After all, the mission is done and I'll just have to rest and..."
"Oh, no, my amiable five star General," he cut in, delicately, more casual than usual. "Your mission has only begun. The reward is given because the first phase has gone so smoothly, too smooth to be overlooked," the president kept grinning, arousing a suspicious thought in David's whirring mind.
Then he motioned for a guard to get him a suitcase. "In here is the mission you're to carry out," he kept smiling, fueling the suspicion that the mission was more dangerous than he thought. His pondering was soon disturbed by a shrilling lady who, however sophisticated she dressed, did not in fact act like one with manners.
Her jet black hair and beautiful grey eyes with her curvy model-like shape stood in contrast to her loudness. "Hi, sweetheart. She found herself to his laps while trailing her hands down his chest.
"I heard the good news," she continued, knowingly smirking at the now smiling president without sparing him a greeting. "Your marriage with Sandra has been dissolved, right?" She went on unperturbed, barely giving David a chance to reply to her sorry form of a greeting.
"Roseline, it has barely been up to two hours since it happened. How did you get wind of the information?" David asked, even when he knew that it was of no use. Her influence was grand and strong enough to even decipher the working of even a baby's mind. And her connection as the CEO of Denver group and Mr. President's friend's daughter could definitely not be overlooked.
"Well, whatever,” she waved it off and wore her cheerful smile beautifully. “Guess who's ready to mingle?" Her hips moved in reply, encircling his groin while she laid a kiss on him and her hands found their way beneath his shirt.
"You know, she never deserved you, right?" David didn't give a reply as he wasn't certain if it was something he was in position to give answer to as his chest was still aching from the emotional pain Sandra had caused.
"She was always so pompous and full of herself when she first-hand knew that she wasn't even that pretty to be waited on," Roseline babbled on, her eyes glistening with the new found happiness that her crush was free and ready to mingle once again.
She was even happier to realize that he had just been released from prison and that everything was just a mission. It didn't occur to her that she might have to leave the decision making to David as he had just been the one to have walked out from a marriage where his emotions had been invested in.
"You really need to think about it," the president began. "Seeing that your mission will require you to cohabit with her." His smile never left its place. It was daunting yet calm and collected.
With that, David stood with a start. "What does that mean?" His suspicion blew out fully. So had this been the plan all along? His mind raced. To separate him from Sandra in order to stay with Roseline?
But he quickly diverted his thoughts, realizing that it was at all not in connection. The mission was separate from all that went on with Sandra and him.
He had begun the mission a year before marriage to Sandra, and had only gone to prison to finalize everything.
But she, on the other hand, had chosen to break his heart and now it was time for him to place his revenge, strategically and without a hitch.
"Of course, Sir. I'll definitely give it much thought, much more than you could imagine," he found himself grinning, a wave of happiness flowing into his soul as he found a perfect way to set up his revenge.
"I knew you were special when I chose you," the president beamed, relaxing all his dauntingness and letting the sight of Roseline and David flatter him. "Well, then, allow her to lead you to the party ground," he went on with the smiles, motioning for a guard to come closer for a whisper.
Yet again, a gentle suspicion nagged behind David's throat.
