CHAPTER SIX.
She allowed the cool evening air to heighten her excitement as she stepped out of the car, and the onlookers to watch happiness displaying beautifully on her cheeks with every step she took.
It wasn't a small feat and no matter what anyone might say, her regret for leaving David was beginning to dissipate and get replaced by admiration for Dustan, her new magician.
Would she have gotten to know the famous Roseline Denver if she had remained with David, a mere pauper?
Of course she knew the answer. David was as useless as a dead cockroach, having no connections whatsoever to even his fellow roaches.
While Dustan on the other hand, with just two weeks of meeting, was already opening doors for her without even lifting a finger, something she had been yearning for, for ages.
Now was her time to shine and she calmly collected her lost emotions and fitted them into one place of joy.
With the sweet thought of victory on her mind, she lifted her eyes to grace Dustan’s ethereal beauty, pointed nose, and heavy brows that made him look more like a Greek god than an American that he was.
Even though she felt no rush in her heart for him despite his expensive and royal look, she believed that things were going to get better with time, especially now that he seemed to have all the right connections in the world.
It didn't matter that her heart didn’t rush and jump up like a kangaroo in love. All that mattered was the meeting that had cleverly been arranged by him and that would turn her life around much to the jealousy of people like her ex-husband.
She smiled the emptiness in her heart off, assuring herself that she will get over David. She banked her whole heart on the saying “Out of sight, out of mind,” almost too certain that two months without seeing David would be enough to erase that deeply rooted feeling she had for him.
“Are you okay, babe?” Dustan cut through her troubled thoughts and frozen state. It was certainly normal for him to wonder what could be going on as she had stopped still at the entrance and would not move nor make an attempt to follow him after he had presented his VIP card to the entrance guard.
Sandra jerking back to life with the sudden name call, had to immediately stop her cheeks from glowing redder than a tomato. “I'm fine,” she smiled widely, hoping it got to her eyes and was convincing enough for him.
She wanted nothing to go wrong. He was now the one for her. So she had to, however way she could, force herself to fall head over heels in love with him just as she had done with David and push her unwanted feelings for him into the deepest hell.
Arranging her green sleeveless silk dinner gown, she took his hands and walked inside, controlling the trembling that seemed to be originating from her broken heart.
“It was barely 24 hours,” she cursed inwardly, wondering what could have motivated her to pick another man immediately after breaking someone's heart.
“Are you sure you're fine, honey?” Dustan’s face wrinkled with the look of concern, hovering like a spirit around him. “We could take some air outside before going in, if this,” he pointed to the hall where Roseline was supposedly inside. “Is too much for you to handle at once”.
“Oh, no. Nothing's too much for me to handle. It's just that, I'm excited,” her voice cracked and she couldn't tell if it was sadness or excitement that gave her vocal cords such crackling, croaky sounds.
She hoped earnestly that it was the latter. Nothing would be more humiliating than for her to break down in sorry tears in front of a suitor she had chosen carefully, to lead her to glory land.
“Let's go in,” she quickly added, to fight the awkwardness that had crawled in at the croaky sound from her vocal box.
“Sure,” Dustan gentlemanly agreed, tugging her arm safely in his, and leading her with smiles. His dream, too, was coming true.
They were soon halted by a security guard who eyed them suspiciously as an unwelcome guest as they made to enter the VVIP room.
“Who're you here for?” He seemed to speak from his diaphragm as his voice resonated across the room.
“For the Party,” Sandra chipped in, a bit uneasy but still with a tint of excitement in her voice and the igneous rock of heartbreak in her already heavy heart.
“But the party doesn't begin until 10 pm,” the surprise was evident in the guard's voice.
“We're well aware of that,” Dustan came to the rescue. “We booked an early session with Roseline Denver. We'll love to talk business with her before the party,” he explained further, nodding to keep the guard's eyes from Sandra's almost bare chest.
The guard unprofessionally shifted from one foot to the other. “I'm afraid you'll have to wait…”
“Is Roseline not in?” Sandra cut in, allowing her rude voice to take over and the heart break in her heart to for once surface and lead her behavior.
“She is, but…”
“Then let us in. He's family, I'm sure she wouldn't mind the intrusion,” she spoke rapidly, already pulling a bewildered Dustan towards the room the guard had been eyeing cautiously.
“She has company,” the guard said too late as the door was already pulling open and getting ready to hit him on the face.
As soon as the door opened, Roseline acted on instinct, discarding all her long years of lessons on sophistication and how to be a powerful, calm woman, on sighting David with a woman grinding on his laps and passionately swallowing his lips.
She let go of Dustan and ran faster than she had ever done, pushed the lady to the floor and punched her so hard that blood splattered out of her mouth.
