Slower, drawing out my words so my idiot dad could understand, I said, “I… gave… the… girl… away.”

My dad grabbed his glass of whiskey off of his desk, downed it, and then stood up. He waddled over to me and had to stand on his tiptoes just to meet my eye level. I wasn’t intimidated.
