On Ronan’s first full moon, we took him outside.

The tradition was older than the pack itself — a wolf pup’s first lunar exposure, the

ceremony that introduced a new member to the territory and the pack bond. It was usually

conducted by the Alpha alone, a private moment between father and child under the open

sky. But we’d stopped doing things the traditional way a long time ago, so when the full

moon rose over the compound on a clear, cold night, we went out together.
