Lyra's POV

"It was my fault to assume that you were going to be above something like this, Aurora, do you understand the severity of what you almost just did?" Karl said as he pulled me to his side and my heart was still racing, I knew that she despised me but to try and murder me in the most horrible way possible I didn't know that she was capable of that.

"Alpha , it's not what it looks like, okay? She was the one who decided to drink too much and get wasted. We got up to dance with her to cheer her on and I wasn't trying to push her. I was trying to make sure she didn't fall into the flames herself but she wasn't moving right that's why it looked that way."

The way she naturally said the lie out of her mouth was frightening so if I had actually fallen into the flames this was the story she was planning to tell to everyone that I was not in more than a drunken klutz that lost my own life out of my own carelessness.

"Hey lyra..." She said my name for the first time. "didn't I try to help you out?.’

"You were..."

She didn't even let me finish.

"There's no need asking you if you are drunk so there's no way you will actually understand what was going on and..."

"That's enough!" Karl said, as he whooped me into his hands and carried me as if I waited no more than the breeze around him then he turned his back to Aurora.

"I'm only going to make this warning once Aurora, the next time this happens, there will be consequences, and you sure will regret this."

"What about me?" She called out in a shaky voice before he could take a step forward.

"All my life I have been training since I was a little kid I have been having lessons about how I could become a luna, my family background is perfect to the best to support you and make sure that no one even dares to eye your position as the Alpha from all angles I am the perfect Luna for you then why...."her voice was shaking even more at this point, "why choose her over me? Perhaps I would have found this easier to accept if you had chosen another high ranking pure blooded She Wolf but she-"

"Is your Luna," he completed it go her, then still without looking back he said,

"it doesn't matter if it is something you cannot seem to accept. If it becomes too much for you to be, then you can just leave the pack. But if you still choose to be a member of my pack then you will respect my decisions whether you approve of them or not."

He started walking and I could hear Aurora screaming curses from behind us.

"Thank you"I said quietly after he had walked a while carrying me in his strong arms and placing me against his chest that made my heart beat

There were no other exchanges between us until we reached the house and it was just the two of us. Instead of taking me to my room, he took me to his own room.

Then he laid me down on the bed and I started to catch my breath. By now I was completely sober, almost being pushed into burning flames helped with that a lot.

He allowed me to catch my breath and then he spoke up.

"why didn't you say something all this time? I know she didn't start it now. This must have been escalating slowly for the previous days, hasn't it?"

I nodded.

"Yes I thought I could handle it at first it was stuff I was already used to-"

"Lyra no... I have already told you that you're supposed to stand up for yourself as the luna you cannot let people walk all over you, if I had not suspected that there was something wrong if I had not come running as I did tonight to be by your side then we wouldn't be having this conversation right now..."

The dreadful reality that I could have been nothing but a pile of ashes and bones at the end of tonight really sent a deep chill down my spine.

"I really didn't want to bother you..."I said sitting up on the bed. "You have already done so much that I can never even dream of repaying in my entire lifetime I wanted to show you that I could handle at least this even if I am lacking in every other way I won't say to prove that this was something I could endure and-"

"Lyra are you even listening to yourself right now, she wasn't checking your endurance she was punishing you for 'stealing' a position she believes was meant to be hers. You shouldn't have kept quiet and let her have her way."

"What was I supposed to do?" I found myself screaming.

"Running back to you at every minor inconvenience?" I said my voice started to rise and now I was up on my feet.

"I thought I was finally doing something right for once, I'm sorry maybe I'm not cut out for this perhaps you should find someone else who will be more suitable-"
