I back up one step, and with a gasp, lose my footing.

“Mi amor?” Mario catches me quickly, forcing my eyes on him. “Don’t ruin the dress, okay?”

I nod and return my gaze to Candace. There’s a fire in her eyes; one I can tell is here to burn me.
