“Her home is getting cleaned right now, but she’s asleep in one of the guest rooms,” I say to Nicole over the phone as I head to my car.

“Can’t you wait with her? I’m just ten minutes away.”

“I can’t,” I answer, glancing at my watch. It’s past midnight. I didn’t expect her to unravel as she did. “I trust the people cleaning her place… I ordered some food. It should arrive after you get here.”
