He says nothing for a moment.

Needy, my fist tightens as I stop a tear.

“Did you listen?” He asks softly.

I shut my eyes and open them. “Mmm-hmm…”

“You turned off your read receipt. Why?”

I shake my head in silence, short of answers.

“You didn’t want me to know you’ve seen it? Or listened?”

“I was going to turn it back on…” I mumble. With shaky fingers, I pinch my blanket, hoping he’s not upset. “I’m-I’m still… nervous…”
