I turn to him and answer, “To carry her.”

“Why? Dimitri is taking her inside.”

“I just want to carry her,” I say with a shrug, give him my best smile, and slip my hand out of his. “Dimitri?”

Dimitri pauses in his tracks.

I smile at Lena as I approach her. Then I ask, “Can I carry her?”

“Of course. Why not?”

“Thank you,” I utter, hurrying to meet up with Dimitri.
