My immediate thought in this moment is: ‘What if I came here with Sophia?’

Just thinking about it snuffs the air out of my lungs and makes the hair on my skin rise in terror. My grip on the car door tightens. I can’t even begin to comprehend the damage–

“You wanted me to come to you… I’m right here,” she says with that mouth of hers, slapping resigned palms on her thighs as if to say: ‘You got what you wanted.’
