He nods, swallows, and shifts his jaw. “It made me feel a little better about wanting to hang out with you. Wanting to spend time with you.”

A scoff spews out of my lips. Tears sting my eyes, but I hold them back with every fiber of my strength. “Hurting my feelings made you feel better?”
