BACK FROM FUN

The day was calm and bright as Amina, Miriam, and Selena made their way through the village streets. The sky above was clear, a soft blue stretching endlessly, with only a few wispy clouds drifting lazily. The sun shone warmly, illuminating the houses and fields in a gentle, golden light. The breeze was light, carrying the mingled scents of fresh grass, flowers, and cooking fires from nearby homes. The streets were alive with quiet activity-neighbors greeting each other, children playing, and the distant clatter of a pot or two being washed. There was nothing unusual about the day; everything seemed perfectly ordinary, which made the girls feel at ease as they walked side by side.

The girls chatted lightly as they walked. They spoke about small things-their families, recent events, and the little jokes they shared. Amina occasionally glanced at her friends, feeling a warmth of companionship that reminded her of simpler days before the worries and troubles of recent events had crept into her life. With Miriam and Selena by her side, she could forget her concerns for a while and simply enjoy being a child again.

After a leisurely walk, they finally arrived at their destination: the playground. It was an open, welcoming space with soft grass underfoot, a few swings swaying in the breeze, and colorful climbing frames that glinted in the sunlight. The laughter of children ran through the air, mingling with the girls' own laughter as they ran across the field. They wasted no time exploring every corner, climbing, swinging, and testing their balance along low fences.

Soon, they settled under the shade of a large tree, spreading out a small blanket and enjoying a simple picnic. Amina carefully unwrapped a few snacks she had brought along, while Miriam and Selena shared theirs as well. The girls laughed and talked as they ate, telling stories, teasing each other playfully, and savoring the simple joy of the moment. They were carefree, wrapped in the comfort of friendship.

After a while, they wandered over to the nearby market stalls. They picked small gifts for themselves-Amina chose a delicate bracelet with tiny beads that caught the light, Miriam selected a colorful ribbon for her hair, and Selena picked a small pair of earrings. Each girl admired the others' choices, smiling and laughing as they shared their excitement. These little treasures felt special, more because they had been chosen together than for their actual value.

Later, Amina paused and looked at her friends with curiosity. "Do you know where Jessica is?" she asked. "Maybe we could go to her house to call her, or even spend some time with her today."

Miriam shook her head thoughtfully. "That's a good idea, but since she isn't here, it might be better to leave it for another day. We can't contact her any other way, and going to her house now is too far. Let's just enjoy today. Jessica can come another time."

Selena nodded in agreement. "Yes, Miriam is right. Today is for us. Jessica can join us later. We shouldn't worry about it now."

Amina smiled and agreed. "All right, if you both think so, let's continue having fun."

The three girls resumed their activities. They ran, jumped, climbed, and swung, each moment filled with laughter and excitement. For Amina, it was a rare feeling of lightness. Recent days had been heavy with worry and tension, but now, surrounded by her friends and the joy of the playground, she could finally let herself enjoy life. The sun shone warmly on their faces, the breeze carried the sweet smell of grass and flowers, and every sound-the laughter of children, the distant calls of neighbors-added to the perfection of the day.

As the afternoon passed, the sun began to dip lower in the sky, turning the horizon a soft orange. The warmth began to fade, replaced by a gentle evening chill. The girls, sensing the day was coming to an end, gathered their small treasures and packed them into their bags. They walked back slowly, enjoying the last moments of daylight and talking quietly about the day's events. Amina felt particularly happy, remembering each game, each laugh, and each small moment of joy.

The first stop was Selena's house. As they approached her compound, Selena's face brightened, and she waved to her mother. "Mama, they're here!" she called.

The girls greeted her mother politely. "Good evening, Ma," they said together.

Her mother smiled warmly. "Good evening, girls. I hope you enjoyed yourselves. Take care and come back safely another day."

"Thank you, Ma," Amina replied sincerely.

With that, Amina and Miriam continued on to Miriam's compound. As they neared her home, they noticed Miriam's father standing at the doorway, his brow furrowed and his voice raised. "Miriam! Where have you been? Why are you only coming back now?"

Miriam's mother quickly stepped forward, placing a gentle hand on her husband's arm. "Calm down. She's been with her friends, enjoying herself. It's not as if she went alone or into danger. Let her enjoy her day."

Miriam's father looked at her for a long moment, then nodded reluctantly. "All right... I hear you," he said, though his concern remained evident.

Miriam entered the house, her bag of gifts in hand. She smiled faintly as she walked to the table where her dinner had been prepared. Before she began, she waved to Amina. "Goodbye, Amina! See you soon!"

"Goodbye, Miriam!" Amina called back cheerfully. "See you next time!"

Amina continued her walk home. The evening air was cool and gentle, brushing softly against her skin. When she reached her house, she saw her father moving slowly but steadily around the room, and her mother had already prepared her favorite meal. A warm smell of cooked food drifted through the house, welcoming her back.

She hurried inside. "Good evening, Dad. Good evening, Mom! I'm so happy you're better now!"

Her father smiled at her and reached out a hand. "I told you, I would recover. How was your day, my daughter? Did you enjoy yourself?"

"It was wonderful!" Amina exclaimed. "We went to the playground, had a picnic, bought little gifts, and laughed so much. But we forgot to call Jessica. She could come another day. Still, it was amazing!"

Her father nodded, satisfaction in his eyes. "It's good to hear that. Good friends make life happy."

Amina felt her heart swell with joy. She went to the kitchen, bringing the dinner to the table. The three of them sat down together, enjoying their meal with laughter and conversation. Amina shared stories of the games, the picnic, and their small purchases. Her parents listened with delight, smiling as they watched her excitement.

The sky outside darkened gently as the day ended. Inside, the warmth of food, family, and shared joy filled the house. The peaceful evening wrapped around them like a soft blanket, leaving Amina feeling content, happy, and grateful for her friends, her family, and the simple pleasures of a joyful day.
